Went home with tears!

Saturday night Abby and I got together with some of our friends to have a game night. Abby usually stays right by me because she is kinda bashful in those situations with a lot of people. She has gotten to know these kids over the last few months a little better so she just took off and went to play. I was so happy to have a little freedom. Freedom that would soon haunt me! We were playing a game and eating junk food.....having a good time when Dale (our friend and the host that night) came out of his bedroom saying that Abby had gotten into something. I went in there to find her digging into a huge jar of Vaseline with both hands and then wiping it in her hair and on her face. Very embarrassed but calmly, proceeded to clean her up. Which is very difficult for those of you that have had this happen to you. Vaseline is so greasy you can't just wash it off. You just have to wipe off what you can and leave the rest to soak in. ANYWAY, I got her cleaned up and changed into her Jammie's and sent her downstairs to play with the other kids. Oh no sooner than about 30 minutes after that one of the girls came upstairs to tell me that Abby was scratching everyone. Mind you this child was NOT even crying but was actually bleeding! She had scratches down her face and they were bleeding from my Abs. So that is when I snapped...made Abby say sorry and we gathered our stuff and went home. I cried as soon as I got to the car because I was so embarrassed! Too sensitive? Maybe a little but with a first child I must say that some of these trials are interesting to handle by yourself. I love my husband, but he isn't a social man. So that leaves me to either sit home all the time while he is on the computer, or go out and attempt to have some fun. I definitely got more fun than I expected....LOL! Happy Mother's Day right? Thanks for listening to my ramble!

I say if hubby is gonna stay home, he gets to babysit. :) I probably would've cried too.

So so sorry! Just know that you are not alone! When my youngest was barely 3, we were at a friends playing. He came downstairs covered in something black and pink. I went upstairs to see he had gotten into my friends (expensive) make-up and proceeded to color all over her bedspread and walls with mascara, eyeliner and lipstick. I was mortified! Good times. :) So, she'll get over it and so will you! Good luck until then!! :)

I've cried my fair share of tears at being upset and embarrassed at things my kids have done! It's hard, but you're doing an awesome job--I'm amazed at all the things that you do!!

Kate, tell Super Steve for me...no let him read this. Ahem. Steve. Are you listening? Good. Do I need to drive 2000 miles from Cleveland to Idaho Falls to unplug your computer, shove you out the door and lock it? HA HA!!! Go out and be Social!!! :) Okay, you can call me up now and cuss me out if you want to...that was a bit overbearing. :) I'm in a weird mood or something. Kate! You're awesome! My children have brought me to tears many times because of what they've done/haven't done. Don't distress. It's NORMAL!

Hey! Good to hear from you! I'm always happy to come across new and "old" :) people from blogging! (Please don't take that the wrong way --- not old as in OLD :) !) I had a good laugh at this post! I'm so sorry! I haven't had much trouble with "bullying" but PLENTY of mishaps like the vaseline! Oh MY! I'm so sorry! It feels so mortifying to happen at someone else's house - I know! I wish I could tell you that it ends . . . well, at least not in the 4 1/2 years I've been a parent!!! :) If it's not one embarrassment, I'm sure it will be another! :) Good luck!

Kate, so sorry you felt bad. It really was no big deal and she didn't even make a mess in our room. Trust me, we've had tons of stuff like this happen with all of our kids and we're used to it. (Plan on the mess-making phase to last at least another year! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!) Anyway, don't feel like you can't come over again; we'd love to have you. (Elora's face is fine and my kids still think Abby is the cutest thing, so no permanent harm done) (Also, plan on the scratching, biting thing to last for a while, too. I guess it's just something that 2-3 yr olds do.)

Thanks everyone for your words of wisdom and support! It helps to know that I am NOT alone in this child-rearing madness. I had no idea how much emotion naughty kids can bring to a Mother!LOL! Life goes on.
